I can’t believe Clyde will be here in less than seven weeks! I’m so excited and so nervous at the same time. Now that I’ve mastered the art of handling one little person I’ll be adding another to our family. Two little boys…. Lord, help me!
Totally kidding! I am very aware that there will chaos, many messes, and double the amount of toys scattered throughout the house, but one thing I always make sure and do is at least try and stay organized! I’m so excited to have partnered with The Container Store to share with you all the ways I’m staying ahead of the game and preparing our home to get ready for baby boy number two!
I was in the process of switching Fisher out of the baby nursery to his “big boy” room and couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed when I looked at all the weird space in his closet. It had worked out okay when we brought him home from the hospital, but it was just not as functional as I would have liked it to be when he was a newborn.
I only had one built in and one bar for holding clothes, and had to opt for a fabric closet organizer that has just about seen the end of its life. “THERE HAS GOT TO BE ANOTHER WAY TO DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME”, I muttered to myself.
Fortunately, The Container Store has so many amazing storage options I had no idea existed. I seriously wish I had found out about all of their organizational systems sooner (new mommy-hood would have been just a tad bit easier!).
I completely changed the game in the nursery closet and there is an immense amount of storage now! The Container Store has everything from Elfa closet systems, storage bins, to over the door utility shelving for easy access to lotions, swaddles, or anything else you could need to grab quickly.
My first change to the nursery was the Elfa closet system. The Container Store has an Elfa Closet System for various sized closets, so it’s important to make sure and measure yours to get the appropriate one that fits yours best. They will also cut down the top track of the system in order to fit the back wall which is what we had to do. We took off a couple inches and everything fell into place perfectly!
Ours is the Elfa 4 Foot Reach in Classic Closet System. It came with drawers, shelving, a bar for hanging clothes, and plenty of space for storage underneath. You can either install the system yourself or pay an additional fee to have a professional from The Container Store come out and do it for you.
If you happen to live with a handy husband (like I do) you can totally put the system together yourself. If not, I would not recommend trying to put it together yourself! You definitely want to piece this together correctly and there are several parts. It came out PERFECT! I have more space than I know what to do with!
The Elfa Over the Door Utility System is great for holding all the quick grab things that I’ll need when Clyde comes. There is shelving for pretty much anything I need and was so easy to put together! This is a great way to continue to utilize space in the closet by also making the closet door work for you. I’ve put some of his lotions, swaddles, and toys there already. I even hung my breast pump at the bottom to access quickly when it’s time to travel with baby.
I chose these farmhouse style canvas storage bins for even more organization in the closet and to keep things together. With so much space I knew I would get out of control with putting things here and there and making it all look a bit messy (I get excited with shelving).
The containers really keep the look clean by hiding the little things that can make an organized closet appear cluttered. The labels spaces will also help me keep track of what is in which bin. They are also currently on sale!
Now, just because you’re bringing a newborn home doesn’t mean the organization has to stay in the nursery. If there is one thing that can drive a new mom crazy it’s trying to keep up with the rest of the house as well. Things are going to get crazy-and that’s okay. But, let’s try and keep the kitchen organized too! After all, this is a place you’ll be spending a lot of your time since you’ll be prepping your food, storing milk for the baby, creating family meals, etc. I completely cleaned out and organized our kitchen, and here are some amazing products from The Container Store that helped me do that…
The Pantry Shelves Starter Kit was exactly what I needed to keep everything organized in our minimal cabinet space. I have CLEAR containers, ya’ll. I can SEE what’s there and what I have in stock. It’s amazing. It also came with a rotating double deck lazy-susan. I also received the spice bottles, spice rack, and plenty of containers to house rice, flour, lentils.. you name it!
The iDesign Linus Fridge Starter Kit was also a must. I know I’ll be storing milk and trying to keep things together for the family, so having these containers will be such a big help. There are bins for both the and the fridge that keep each item in its place.
I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of the inside of my fridge. It makes me feel like it could be on one of those professional food network shows.. totally organized and commercial looking!
I had so much fun organizing with The Container Store. I could literally buy up the entire store and get really carried away with all there is to offer there. They have every possible storage solution for any space, any item, in any home.
I really can’t imagine not having discovered how great it truly is to be honest with myself and know that I had to make some changes around our home with our growing family! So, take a peek and see all the options there are to help you prep your home for your new little one!

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple,
yyet effective. A lott of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and appearance.
I must say that you’ve done a fantastic job with this.
In addition, the blog loads extremely quick forr me on Internet explorer.
