Look at my grandpa on the horse LOL. That was the funniest thing ever when we looked through all our photos and saw Pop sitting on a horse on the beach!
Wedding planning began as soon as Kirk and I got engaged…aka, I started ripping through bridal magazines and creating dream boards on Pinterest. There are so many different things you plan for a wedding, which can be overwhelming to think about. All the different venues, caterers, invitations, and floral options… where do you even start? Fortunately, we had some friends of ours get married in Cabo and they said it was so amazing they couldn’t have had a better time. That really got us thinking about having a destination wedding. After all, 1) it would be a great vacation for everyone 2) we can celebrate our wedding a week long vs. one night 3) we can spend more time with our friends and family 4) who doesn’t want cake by the ocean?
We decided on The RIU Palace Cabo San Lucas. It is an incredible resort. Seated right on the beach, it has views of the famous Cabo Arch and is close enough to downtown for a little fun! With 5 restaurants on site and it being an all-inclusive resort you really don’t need to leave. The infinity pools are impressive and it seemed as if you could just swim into the ocean. When we got there and felt the breeze through the open lobby with views of the sea we knew we had made the right decision. Cabo is paradise!
The wedding itself was so much more than we could’ve imagined. After a year of going back and forth with the resort wedding coordinator you never really know exactly how it will turn out. As the Bride it can be nerve-wracking! Will they get the flowers right? Will they get the songs lined up? What if a hurricane comes??? All these questions popped into my head, but I pushed through. If you plan on a destination wedding you HAVE to mentally let go of being in complete control just a tad. I promise you’ll be surprised at how amazing these resorts are at putting weddings together. People get married abroad all the time. Most resorts are well versed on hair, makeup, cakes, flowers, and seating. Ours had the entire package.
Kirk and I got married in a gazebo overlooking the ocean. It was a nice little area somewhat secluded so, we had some privacy. The music was perfect and everything lined up exactly how I wanted it. Even the wind seemed to cooperate ( I wore a long veil). That was obviously pure luck LOL. It was a little on the hot side, but what are you going to do? Its Cabo and we are on the beach… the backdrop was STUNNING. You can’t imagine a more perfect setting for a wedding. After the I DO’s we walked down the aisle to a private toast with champagne, friends, and family. Now, the party was about to start!
The reception was so beautiful. It was on the sand so, everyone took their shoes off and relaxed at their tables under the palms. Lights were strung up and the DJ was setting the tone for a fun night. During this time we went a little closer to the ocean for some photo opportunities with our wedding photographers, Koby and Elizabeth Brown. See their amazing work at www.kobybrown.com! Sunset in Cabo is incredible, so we captured some fantastic moments on camera. When we got back to the reception the cake was brought (looked even more beautiful than I thought it was going to). Dinner was fantastic! We added a few upgrades to our wedding package as well knowing we were going to go all out in Cabo for this. We upgraded our dance floor to a sleek looking white one on the sand which reflected all the lighting. I added a photo booth to take fun pics with props so everyone had a take home souvenir, and of course, we upgraded our beach side bar to stay up a little longer. Our crowd likes to party..and that is exactly what we did!
Kirk and I couldn’t have been more happy with the way it all turned out. I’m so glad we got married in Cabo. Everyone had a blast and we can’t wait to go back!
These are just a few photos highlighting the best day of our lives! For more information on how I specifically planned our destination wedding alongside the resort wedding coordinator, please feel free to reach out to me for any questions. It is A LOT to keep up with and think about, but I promise you if you are thinking of doing a destination wedding it is more than worth it! I can also put together a Cabo guide of where to go eat and stay if you’re planning on vacationing there soon.
Have a great day!
Love, B
