What is a Brazilian Blowout? Are They Worth It?

Hey babes!

Have ya’ll heard of a Brazilian Blowout? Sounds exotic, right? LOL I had been hearing girls talk about how amazing this treatment is and what its done for their hair for years. Basically, it’s a treatment that keeps your hair freaking amazingly smoothed out and frizz-free in humidity (aka HOUSTON). Not only that, but it apparently lasts for like 4 months… When I heard about this I knew I needed one! With Spring and Summer quickly approaching I took the plunge back in January and got my first BB! Here’s what I thought…

First of all, let’s start with the fact that I have never received any type of hair treatment, coloring, or anything of the sort throughout my life so far. This was my very first real treatment. I wasn’t sure what to expect and was a little nervous. Would it change my hair texture? Would I not be able to curl my hair well with it being smoothed out? Will I have any volume??? The questions kept popping up in my mind, but all I could think of was all the baby hairs I had grown in since I had Fisher that were frizzing all over the place anytime they sensed H20 nearby… and it bothered the shit out of me. I was all in with the BB. After all, why not try something at least once if it is going to really help you.

So, I partnered with an amazing salon in the Heights called, Shine On The Heights. They are so friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about all things hair. Not to mention the salon is so open and up in the trees right off Heights Blvd. I LOVE it! I was so glad I decided to go somewhere where all my questions about the treatment were answered and they knew exactly what they were doing. The BB still allows you to curl your hair, I would have smoothed out hair (but still have some volume), and it wouldn’t change the texture of my hair. Next step was to start the process. Be sure to set aside 2 hours or so for the full deal.

The Process:

The treatment was actually pretty cool. We washed my hair, dried it, put the treatment product on my hair in sections, and treated my hair with heat to set the product into my hair strands. Like, we were literally drying the product into my hair with a hair dryer. Then, we straightened it to seal the solution into the hair for the longest-lasting effects possible. We then head back to the sink for a rinse (no shampooing) for about 2 minutes or so. Back in the chair they’ll spray your hair with a mask type spray and then style dry your hair with a hairdryer once again. BOOM! Just like in the movie, Don’t Mess With A Zohan, “You’re hair is silky smooze”.

Results:

It’s now May and my hair is JUST NOW starting to sort of get back to the frizz it once had due to all the intense humidity (and it’s also been well over 12 weeks). I am in LOVE with BBs, and honestly, I wonder why in the world I hadn’t gotten it done sooner! A Brazilian Blowout completely changed my hair for the better. It was so much more manageable, tamed, smooth, and frizz-free! I will always be a fan of the BB and continue to get them as long as I can.

Upkeep:

Remember, there are a few things to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to get a BB. First, know that you need to use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to help your treatment last as long as possible. There are special shampoos the salon you go to can sell to you on your way out. They know exactly what you need. Also, know that all good things must come to an end. Eventually, the treatment will be completely gone and you’ll need to go in for another one. If going in every 3-4 months doesn’t bother you then, perfect. Lastly, I’ll add that the cost is roughly around $300. You can find great promotions and deals going on with your local salons with major discounts a lot of times. Shine On The Heights has fantastic deals (especially on BBs) so, check them out!

If you have any other questions about Brazilian Blowouts and how I liked mine, questions about my salon, or anything else that comes to mind, please drop me a comment or message me! For now, I’m due for another BB. See you at Shine!

Always, B
