How to Make the Best Quick and Easy Homemade Salsa

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone!

There has been so much going on the last few months. Let’s be honest.. we all deserve a margarita or two. I LOVE celebrating Cinco de Mayo!

I thought I posted my famous pico recipe a long time ago, but I guess I didn’t because I couldn’t find it anywhere! So, today I’m sharing it with you just in time to whip some up to have with a side of chips and guacamole. It’s so easy!

I make this salsa almost weekly! It has been in my life since I was a little girl and my mom used to make it all the time for us.. this is one of my comfort foods. The only thing I changed to make it my own was add garlic cloves. THIS IS A KEY INGREDIENT THAT TOTALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Ingredients:

  • 5 very large ripe tomatoes

  • 1 white onion

  • 1 bunch cilantro

  • 2-3 cloves garlic

  • 1-2 serano peppers (de-seeded)

  • The juice of 2 limes

  • Salt for taste

Directions

  • Have a large container ready to hold all the salsa as you go.

  • Grab the blender. Quarter the tomatoes and onion on a cutting board. Place a few quarters of tomatoes and onion in the blender and blend on pulse. Let it get pretty crushed up and add half the cilantro.

  • Deseed the serrano peppers and half lengthwise. I use one because I like my salsa medium/mild, but you can do two for a kick. Place the serrano in the blender and blend mixture on low until it is semi-liquidy. This salsa is runny rather than chunky.

  • Pour the first batch of salsa in the big container. Continue to add quarters of the tomatoes and onions, cilantro, and garlic cloves until all is blended and mixed.

  • When all the salsa is in the large container add the juice of 2 limes and salt.

  • Get ready to have the best salsa you’ve ever had.

This salsa is supposed to look kind of soupy and is best served cold. I like putting it on my omelettes, pairing it with chips, and using it to top my taco bowls. It is seriously SO delicious!
