I recently asked my husband how many diapers he thought we have gone through with Fisher over the course of the last two years. It really puts things into perspective when you can see an estimate. We calculated that over the course of Fisher’s life we have used roughly 4,860 diapers. That is considering the fact that infants require around 12 diapers a day (Fisher’s first 6 months) in addition to the 5 diapers he is currently going through per day. Toddlers usually require around 8 diapers a day. That’s almost 5 THOUSAND diapers used in just two years!
When I learned about the National Diaper Bank Network I discovered how little I knew about the struggle one-in-three families experiences when trying to supply their children with diapers. I had no idea that, according to the National Diaper Bank Network, 5.2 million children in the U.S aged 3 or younger live in poor or low income families. I had not a clue that most childcare centers, even free and subsidized facilities require parents to provide a day’s supply of disposable diapers. Nor did I realize that no state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers. With diapers ranging from about $70-$80 per month per baby, I can see how out of reach diapers are for poor to low income families now. You can find these facts in addition to more research and studies on the National Diaper Bank Network website here: (nationaldiaperbanknetwork.org).
Since day one of bringing Fisher home diapers have been a staple, but something I also didn’t think about. They’re just part of our daily life. They’re used, thrown away, and quickly replaced with a fresh new one. I didn’t think about what a luxury it actually is to have them. This new knowledge about how scarce diapers can be for so many families really put things into perspective, and that’s why I’m so thrilled to be sharing the message with Huggies®.
It’s so important we do all we can to ensure the safety of our children which includes the importance of access to clean diapers. Since 2011, Huggies has teamed up with the National Diaper Bank Network to donate and distribute more than 220 million diapers to support families in need. That’s an AMAZING donation! You can be a part of it as well. With every purchase of Huggies from Walmart (in-store and online) during the month of September, Huggies will donate two days’ worth of diapers, up to 1,000,000 diapers, to the National Diaper Bank Network.
Head to your local Walmart this weekend to help families in need. By working together and supporting this cause, we can ensure that all babies have access to clean diapers and other basic necessities required for them to thrive and reach their full potential. I hope that you’ll join me in helping Huggies with this incredible effort in donating diapers to families in need. I really have learned so much about the need for diapers and hope I’ve given you some insight into some truly important facts about our fellow friends and neighbors. Everyone can use a helping hand and every child deserves to be clean and safe! Check out this link if you want to partake in donating:
